Did you know that Navy Day is commemorated in Mexico on June 1?
This day was born in 1917 because a Mexican merchant ship sailed from the port of Veracruz for the first time, the steamship “Tabasco”, whose crew was made up exclusively of Mexicans by birth and with Don Rafael Izaguirre Castañares as captain.
It should be noted that the first time Navy Day was celebrated in Mexico was on June 1, 1942, which also served to honor the crews of the Mexican tankers “Potrero del Llano” and “Faja de Oro.” ” that were torpedoed and sunk by German submarines on May 13 and 20 of that same year during the Second World War, actions in which many Mexican sailors lost their lives.
In each port of Mexico this celebration is commemorated with various activities; Such is the case of the municipality of Escuinapa, Sinaloa (located 1 hour 15 minutes from the port of Mazatlán) where from June 1-4 they will hold the traditional “Teacapán Sailor Festival 2023” whose invitation is extended to the entire family.
