Walk to the Mazatlan Observatory

Walk to the Mazatlan Observatory

Funicular MazatlánWithout a doubt, one of the most important attractions of Mazatlan are its natural beauties and historical corners and what better place to enjoy them than from the Observatory 1873.

The 1873 Observatory located on the top of ‘Cerro del Vigia’ and 75 meters above sea level, was initially built as a military observation post (hence the name of Cerro del Vigia) since its strategic location allowed the local population to protect themselves from the incursion of enemy ships such as those dedicated to piracy.

For the year 1873, this place was incorporated meteorological and seismological activities, becoming one of the most important in the time of Porfirio Diaz. The recovery of this historic site has allowed both locals and visitors the opportunity to discover part of the history of Mazatlan and its beauties from another perspective.

Living the experience of the 1873 Observatory is unique since the walk begins with the ‘Funicular’ which is an inclined elevator that takes you to the top of the hill, it should be noted that it is the first in Sinaloa and was awarded as the inclined elevator project of the year. Being at the top of the Observatory enjoy the tour of the:

  • Museum.
  • Sanctuary “The Nest” where you will appreciate exotic birds of the region.
  • Access to Sky bar.
  • Agaviary and Desiladora where you will see more than 30 species of cacti and agaves and during the tour you will learn a little about the history, curious facts and a tasting of three types of mezcal.
  • Iguanario.
  • Zipline (coming soon).

If you live in Mazatlán or will be visiting, do not miss the opportunity to live this incredible experience where the camera will be your best ally.

This was the reopening of Hotel Playa Mazatlan after several months in pause

On July 8th, Hotel Playa Mazatlan experienced one of the most anticipated moments, its official reopening after several months in pause due to the pandemic by the Covid-19. During these months we worked hard on certifications and remodeling to be ready for this “new normal” that has only prompted us to be better and more careful in matters of health and safety.

Our first guests, Mrs. Maria del Socorro Castillo and her husband Mr. Javier Valle from the state of Coahuila, were in charge of cutting the ribbon for the reopening and amid music and typical dances, under strict security protocols is how we announce that: We are back!

We are OpenIt is important to take into account that for reasons of the pandemic the Hotel will be offering its services only at 65% of its capacity, so there are already dates where we do NOT have availability, so before planning your stay with us consult our Availability Calendar 2020.

With all this, Hotel Playa Mazatlan is ready to offer you memorable experiences in a safe and guaranteed environment.
