Who was Jose Limon?
Born in the city of Culiacan, Sinaloa on 12 January 1908, who immigrated to the United States in 1918 where, after finishing high school and studying art, he discovered his vocation for dance in New York City. Since then, Jose Limon worked to vindicate the masculine gender in modern dance, developing specific execution techniques and the conception of choreographic pieces such as Dos preludios (Koven, 1931) and Danza de la Muerte (1937) considered masterpieces. Likewise, the love for dance led him to create his own Jose Limon Dance Company, who was the first American modern dance group to go on tour abroad.
