Welcome to the inaugural season of the Mazatlan Comedy Club!
Once a month, from November to March, Hotel Playa Mazatlan & Vissual Taller Creativo will be presenting a highly entertaining night of Stand Up Comedy in the state of the art, Venados Showroom, featuring seasoned performers from throughout the United States. These comedians are some of the best in the business and have all appeared on prime time tv shows and the most famous comedy clubs in the world.
During a visit to Mazatlan by the General Consul of the Consulate of the United States in Hermosillo, John Tavenner recognized that although Sinaloa retains a travel alert to its American citizens, Mazatlan is kept outside this recommendation because of the good results that have been presented in the last three years.
In a private meeting with the Mayor of Mazatlan, Mr. Carlos Felton, Travenner said that the U.S. Consulate in Sinaloa estimated that there are about 10,000 Americans who enter and reside temporarily or permanently and the return cruise was due to all efforts made by the Local and Federal Government to change the situation in Mazatlan, improve and strengthen security and creating and improving tourist areas.
Notably John Travenner has served as Consul General from 2011, ending his management at the end of July.
The Internet travel agency Expedia placed Mazatlan in the Top Ten destinations in Mexico with increased demand for hotels packages, registering a growth of 200% between 2012 and 2013. This was announced by Pablo Castro, Marketing Director for Mexico and Central America in the frame of the Tourism Tianguis Mexico celebrated recently in Cancun, Quintana Roo.
This exponential growth is due to the excellent tourist promotion by tourism institutions and associations of hotels of the port, placing it as one of the most attractive destinations for travelers in northwest Mexico.
The Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Francisco Cordova Celaya, in the frame of the Tourism Tianguis Mexico 2014 held in Cancun, Quintana Roo, reported that there is a real interest from tour operators in China and Taiwan to the north Sinaloa and the Copper Canyon circuit as a result of a familiarization trip they made in early May.
During the familiarization trip, Asian operators enjoyed the sea lions, the Farallon and Bird Island, the cultural wealth of magical town El Fuerte and the delicious cuisine of Sinaloa, ending the trip in the mountains of the Copper Canyon.
The Secretary Francisco Cordova said the importance and impact that would have this niche market for Sinaloa, as are travelers with high purchasing power and a large average overnight in the destinations they visit.
Following the interest shown, the Ministry of Tourism will be working together to attract this type of visitor to other regions of Mexico, tracing an attractive route: Copper Canyon-Sinaloa-Los Cabos.
In a breakfast provided by the delegation of Sinaloa in the Tourism Tianguis of Mexico to more than 200 friends of Mazatlan where there are representatives of airlines, tour operators, travel agencies, wholesalers and media tourism, the Secretary of Tourism of the state, Francisco Cordova Celaya, said that from 2013 to 2014 Sinaloa tourism has experienced unprecedented growth, making today the first economic activity in the state, “Mazatlan, the crown jewel in Sinaloa, records the beginning a promising future and expect the best flow of tourists and investment”.
For his part, the Director of Connectivity of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies, Gilberto Aviles Bazua argued that there is much optimism for this year to Mazatlan, where the challenge is to ensure that hotel occupancy is not only weekend, increase average stay and promote in the markets of U.S. and Canada more seats for the destination.
The event was attended by representatives of companies that have pushed for years tourism port, among which are: Delta Air Lines, Sun Country, Expedia, WestJet, Orbitz, U.S. Airways, Sunwing, among others.
Thanks to the National Convention Nikkei 2014 that was celebrated in Mazatlan from 1 to 4 May to commemorate the 400th anniversary of diplomatic and trade relations between Mexico and Japan, the beautiful port of Mazatlan was placed before the eyes of the world through the television company NHK (Nippon Hoso Kyoku) considered one of the most important brands in Japan, since it aired a special report of Mazatlan on the ocassion of the convention.
During the video, viewers did a tour for the activities that took place during the event, showing small fragments and scenes in the Convention Center and Hotel Playa Mazatlan, as well as the appearance of Esperanza Kasuga and other Japanese personalities.
Also, on the website of NHK images showing the closeness between Sinaloa and the Japanese culture, represented in a dance on the beach, mixing the Deer Dance with the Japanese tradition.
Hotel Playa Mazatlan extends sincere congratulations to Esperanza Kasuga who organized and coordinated one of the most important events that have taken place in Sinaloa.
The National Convention Nikkei 2014 that was held in the city of Mazatlan, Sinaloa last weekend, helped to connect entrepreneurs of Mazatlan with Japanese diplomats and businessmen, showing a strong interest in seed trade links between the two countries through the North Economic Corridor linking Matamoros with Mazatlan.
Meanwhile, Esperanza Kasuga, President of the Mexico-Japan Association of Mazatlan and organizer, mentioned that four centuries of exchange between the two countries have borne fruit with strong commercial, cultural and social ties and the relationship to Mazatlan goes back 400 years, when a group of Japanese arrived in Mazatlan in 1842 and were aided by the ‘mazatlecos’ defraying expenses for their return.
Rodolfo Madero, leader of Coparmex recognized in Japanese culture of great examples to be learned and spoke of the contacts that have been established for future business between Japanese investors and Sinaloa in the frame of the meeting.
With the presence of the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, among others, today will realize the opening ceremony of the Tourism Tianguis Mexico 2014 to be held from 6 to 9 May in the beautiful city of Cancun, Quintana Roo.
The Lakam Center Riviera Maya Cancun will be the venue that hosts the 32 Mexican states will be participating in this important tourism exhibition where the presence of 31 purchasing companies from 12 countries in Asia-Pacific, 44 companies from 10 countries in Latin America, 359 companies traditional markets of the U.S. and 58 in Canada, predict a strong impetus to the promotion and marketing of products and tourist services of Mexico.
For its part, the state of Sinaloa, led by Tourism Secretary, Francisco Cordova Celaya and with the special participation of Governor Mario Lopez Valdez, focus its tourist proposal in:
- Mazatlan, renovated and safe destination.
- Culiacan and its Convention Center.
- Northern Zone, with Los Mochis and the Copper Canyon.
- The Integrally Planned Center Teacapan.
- Magical Towns: Cosala, El Fuerte and El Rosario.
The Baseball Club ‘Venados de Mazatlan’ provided to local and state authorities the project for the new stadium for ‘Venados de Mazatlan’, the proposal includes the construction of an enclosure with capacity for 16,500 seats and a capacity for up to 20,000 fans.
The President of the Club Venados de Mazatlan, Ismael Barros Cebreros indicated that a large group of architects worked on the design of the new stadium and is expected to commence construction of it later this year or early 2015 and could be completed before the end of the current management of Mario Lopez Valdez (Governor of Sinaloa).
From today until May 29 on the ground floor of Shopping Mall Galerias Mazatlan is open to the public the exhibition Frida Kahlo without walls that under a cultural environment by the Institute of Culture was opened by the Director of Tourism of Mazatlan, Manuel Rico, and accompanied by special guests who watched the exhibition enjoying delicious snacks and live jazz music.
