Lorena Ochoa will play an exhibition match in Mazatlan
Lorena Ochoa, the best Mexico golfer ever, who retired as the number one in the world, will participate in the 6th Annual Estrella del Mar Charity Tournament at Estrella del Mar Golf & Beach Resort, sponsored by the Lorena Ochoa Foundation, Flyers Team and the resort.*
This announcement was made today during a press conference offered by the multi world champion.
“I did not retire from golf, I only retired from the LPGA, just to enjoy more days like these, to help Mexicans in need, to do nice things”, Lorena stated. “Congratulations for the job that all you Mazatlecans have done for the children in need. I’m very happy to be in Mazatlán and I really like what I’ve seen so far”, she concluded.
After asking what would she tell those golf lovers and tourists that sometimes hesitate to travel to Mexico, she responded that we should continue promoting tourism in order to people get introduced to our country, and her presence in Mazatlan and other places in Mexico are live examples. Even though she was born in Guadalajara, she accepted feeling from this area somewhat, since her mother is originally from this state.
The exhibition match will take place at Hotel Estrella del Mar Golf & Beach Resort on Friday January 28th at noon, versus Spaniard Azahara Muñoz, and on Saturday January 29, Lorena will offer a golf clinic by the morning. Both events are open to the public and will support charity organizations, such as DIF Mazatlan, Los Niños del Rio and other educational institutions.
Upon announcing this event, Lorena Ochoa couldn´t hide the enthusiasm she feels. He highly requested to support the promotion of this type of events for the benefit of the children and the camaraderie of golf lovers. The public will be able to walk with the players during the match. In addition, there would be a gathering and autograph signing after the match.
The amateur players will play their tournament at the same time the above activities take place, competing for attractive prizes offered by the sponsors, concluding with an air show that includes the best pilots and acrobats of Flyers Team from the US and Mexico.
The Mazatlan Air Show 2011, which is part of this weekend activities - sponsored by Estrella del Mar - will take place on Sunday January 30th, at 2:30pm, at the Mazatlan Malecon, performed by Flyers Team, including the impressive Lear Jet, twin engines, tilting planes, acrobatic planes, parachutes and many other surprises for the public attending, with duration of about two hours.
