Winner Pacific Marathon 2009
It is curious to observe how the Republic of Kenya, an east African country with great ethnic diversity, is recognized worldwide for its dominance in the athletic background, this is the case of Catherine Ndereba, four-time Boston Marathon winner and John Ngugi, Olympic champion in Seoul.
In the eleventh edition of the Grand Pacific Marathon Mazatlan 2009, was the Kenyan Christopher Kipyego who won the main prize of the competition, participating in the 42K free male category and making an official time of 2:16:12.
The marathon is an athletic test of resistance of Olympian category that consists of traversing a foot a distance of 42 kilometres. The story goes that its origin stems from the Greek soldier Pheidippides who ran a distance of 40 km from Marathon (town on the northeastern coast of Attica) to Athens to announce victory over the Persian army. During this walk Pheidippides dies and is in his honor at establishing a competitive marathon.
Who will be the new champion of the Grand Pacific Marathon 2010? Kenyans continue to dominate this competition?
